Description ionothanus 2008-03-31 23:06:38 UTC
Description of problem:
The default video driver on the F9 Beta GNOME/KDE Live CDs used for the Radeon
3870 does not work. 'radeon_tp' is selected by default but X will not start with
this driver.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 9 Beta Live CDs

How reproducible:
Endlessly

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Burn a CD of the GNOME or KDE beta live CD image.
2. Boot from the CD.
3. Wait through graphical boot.

Actual results:
After watching the graphical boot, user is dumped to console. GDM appears to try
to start X and fails. Starting X manually results in an error. Xorg.0.log states
that the module 'radeontp' could not be found.

Expected results:
User should be taken straight to the respective login manager. X should start
normally and without error.

Additional info:
Switching default driver to 'ati' in Xorg.conf allows X to start normally. I
plan on installing to the hard drive from the F9 install DVD to test that as well.

ajax fixed this in rawhide already, I cut-n-paste from RHEL failure.
