dmesg from Fedora 9 Live CD none

Description Àlex Magaz Graça 2008-04-23 08:01:47 UTC
Description of problem:

After booting from Fedora 9 Preview DVD
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from installation DVD
2. Select "Install or upgrade an existing system"
3. Choose the language
4. Choose the type of keyboard

Actual results:

It asks what type of media contains the packages to bo installed. When I select
"Local CD/DVD", this message appears: "Unable to find any devices of the type
needed for this installation type." and offers to select the driver from a list
or to use a driver disk.

Expected results:

Begin the installation from the DVD without asking anything.

Additional info:

This message appears in third console:

ERROR : got to setupCdrom without a CD device

In the fourth console, I can see the ata_piix module detecting the 4 IDE ports,
but neither the DVD drive nor the hard disk appear in this messages.

The DVD drive is a HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H60L (SATA) connected to the second port
of the first IDE controller, which is a Intel 8280IIR/IO/IH (ICH94/DO/DH) (uses
ata_piix). Smolt profile:

If you switch to console 2 with ctrl-alt-f2 you can run the 'dmesg' command to
list all of the kernel messages. Can you capture those to a USB key and attach them?

dmesg from Fedora 9 Live CD

Comment 3 Àlex Magaz Graça 2008-04-24 12:04:57 UTC
There is no shell in any of the consoles to run dmesg from. But if it helps,
I've attached dmesg from a Fedora 9 Live CD (which failed with /dev/root not found).

sleeping ATA links:

ata1: SATA link down (SStatus 621 SControl 300)
ata2: SATA link down (SStatus 611 SControl 300)

This is fixed in rawhide now.
