Description Stephen Bussetti 2008-04-28 14:32:34 UTC
Description of problem:
Using intel ICH6R chipset w/ BIOS Software RAID 0,1,5,10 Specifically raid5.
This is similar to bug 218192 however that one is install related. I am
reporting that this issue is systemic and also occurs if you try to create a
raid5 post install.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Kernel 2.6.24.4-64.fc8 vs dmraid 1.0.0.rc14-4.fc8

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a raid5 array w/ bios utility
2. install mdraid etc if not available
3. run dmraid -ay (to enable the raid that it DOES see with dmraid -l )

Actual results:
Throws error message device-mapper target type "raid45" not in kernel. and does
not enable the raid device.

Expected results:
Enable/activate the raid device

Additional info:
So far fedora is the only distro that even lists my bios software raid as
raid.. it'd be soooo sweet if we could get a kernel patch to use the raid45.ko
module.

Comment 1 Heinz Mauelshagen 2008-10-16 12:48:55 UTC
We're working on upstreaming the mandatory raid45 target now.
Hopefully it is going to make it into Fedora 10 final.
