On further research, this looks like an issue with the ECC ram in my system. The motherboard is a supermicro X7DAL-E, running bios version 2.0B Is there anyway to disable EDAC from grub, or do I need to try to get it to boot from a rescue CD? I blacklisted edac_mc and i5000_edac by using rescue mode and was able to get the system to boot. While this is now fixed, other folks are probably going to run into the problem. This motherboard uses an intel 5000X chipset; the edac wiki reports that there is a patch in CVS for the i5000 edac driver, but it apparently hasn't made it into the distro yet. Changing version to '9' as part of upcoming Fedora 9 GA. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping I have the same problem with the kernel 2.6.26.5-45.fc9.i686. But 2.6.25.14-108.fc9.i686 works fine! This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 9. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '9'.
