Description Daniel Benamy 2008-05-09 23:07:44 UTC
Description of problem:
I upgraded my machine from fedora 8 to rawhide a few days ago. Now I don't see
an option to suspend or sleep or anything like that in KDE. I know the option
was there at one point with fedora 8 and kde although I haven't used it in a
long time so it is possible it disappeared before now. But I doubt it.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kdebase-4.0.3-9.fc9.x86_64
kdelibs-4.0.3-7.fc9.x86_64
kdelibs-4.0.3-7.fc9.i386
kernel-2.6.25-14.fc9.x86_64

How reproducible:
Every time.

You have to press and hold the "Turn off computer" button in the logout dialog
and the options will show up.

Comment 2 Daniel Benamy 2008-05-10 00:32:09 UTC
Ah, now I see the down arrow. Thanks.
If you're interested in feedback, I don't think that's obvious enough. I know
that we'd like to figure out ways to simplify guis and that figuring out how all
the various goodbye options should work is difficult. I don't have a simple
solution and I think that in this case, the best thing to do here is show all
the options as separate buttons. My understanding is that the suspends are still
kinda flaky on a significant number of machines so it would probably make
trouble to hide power off and have one of them be the "default". But hiding the
suspends too well reduces the number of people who will use those features and
they are important time and energy saving features.

Comment 3 Kevin Kofler 2008-05-10 00:39:20 UTC
Well, suggestions for UI changes are best directed to the (upstream) KDE
project (probably on their mailing lists, it doesn't really belong into a bug
report). We probably won't make changes like that in a Fedora-specific patch.

fwiw, also right click on kpowersave in systray, gives Suspend options as well.
