Description Chris Schembari 2008-05-20 01:01:50 UTC
Description of problem:
The following error message pops up whenever I go to, go back to, or refresh
the FedoraForum main page (http://fedoraforum.org/) or the Guidelines page
(http://www.fedoraforum.org/?view=guide) in Konqueror:
"Connection to host fedoraforum.org is broken." [Accompanied by KDE
breaking-glass sound.]
No further data is given, but even while the message displays, the page loads
as usual, without any further sign of any "broken connection". This happens
repeatedly, every time I load either of those two specific pages in Konqueror,
but it does not happen when I use Firefox or Epiphany on this site, and it does
not happen in Konqueror when I go to any of the other pages within the
FedoraForum site. I don't off-hand remember it happening in Konqueror on any
other site, either.
A bit of malformed code on the page, perhaps? But even so, Konqueror should
maybe... automatically check for this circumstance, whatever it may be, and
handle it differently so as to verify that a connection really is broken before
launching that annoying error message?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
I first noted this when running "Konqueror 3.5.8-31.fc7 Fedora (using KDE
3.5.8-19.fc7 Fedora)", but problem persists now with "Konqueror 3.5.9-3.fc7
Fedora (using KDE 3.5.9-5.fc7 Fedora)".

How reproducible:
Every time I go to one of those two pages at FF.

Additional info:
I'm also sending a message to the forum maintainers so they can look into it,
if they can.

Comment 1 Chris Schembari 2008-05-20 01:08:05 UTC
I just noticed this in the above:
It doesn't matter whether I type in "http://fedoraforum.org/" or
"http://www.fedoraforum.org/".

Comment 2 Bug Zapper 2008-06-17 03:08:27 UTC
Fedora 7 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on June 13, 2008.
Fedora 7 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not
receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version
of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 3 Kevin Kofler 2008-06-17 03:14:23 UTC
Still happens in kdebase-3.5.9-7.fc8.

Comment 4 Bug Zapper 2008-11-26 10:44:30 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 8 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 8. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '8'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 8's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 8 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 5 Kevin Kofler 2008-11-26 11:19:05 UTC
I can't reproduce this with F9.
