It seems that the problem may be related to pulse-audio because sound works with openSUSE 11, which uses a similar kernel, but no pulse-audio. But I don't know how to debug this stuff... This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 9. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '9'. Description of problem: I've got a Compaq Presario V5000 with an ATI SB400 IXP and Conexant id 30 AC97. Sound worked fine on Fedora Core 5 with last updates (2.6.20-1.2320.fc5 kernel), but I get nothing but pops on Fedora 9 (2.6.25.3-18.fc9.i686). The two Fedoras are on separate partitions; I didn't do an upgrade. AFAICT the sound card gets detected identically by both kernel. The only difference in `cat /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0` is on the last line, which gives "Line1 rate : 48000Hz" on F9 but gives 16000Hz on FC5. The more troubling part is that amixer shows only Master and Capture controls in F9, whereas in FC5 it printed the entire list (headphone, PCM, etc.) On F9 the master playback is at 100% by default, so I get loud pops when gnome wants to play some sound. Testing with speaker-test and aplay with a wav file also gives nothing but pops on F9, so the bug seems with alsa rather than higher layers (pulseaudio). Below is some config info.
