The page rendered with the latest versions of firefox 3 (Fedora 9 top; Ubuntu 8.04 bottom) none

Description Claude Boucher 2008-07-08 00:02:24 UTC
Description of problem:
Fedora's builds of Firefox (2.0.0.14 on Fedora 8 and 3.0.1 on Fedora 9)
incorrectly renders a valid XHTML 1.0 transitional page at this URL:
http://www.msg.gouv.qc.ca/service_aerien/service_aerien.html

Fedora's builds of Firefox are the only ones to exhibit this problem. That's why
I didn't kick the problem upstream (see below for versions and platforms tested).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
* firefox-3.0-1.fc9.i386
* firefox-2.0.0.14-1.fc8

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Firefox
2. Paste the URL http://www.msg.gouv.qc.ca/service_aerien/service_aerien.html in
the address bar
3. See for yourself

Actual results:

The right-hand column of the page is displayed centered at the bottom of the
page which is not the desired outcome.

Expected results:

The right-hand column (with the search tool) should be rendered on the right
side of the page, below the navigation bar.

Additional info:

1- The same page is displayed correctly by the current versions of Firefox 3.0
in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), OpenSuSE 11.0 and Windows XP; Opera (on Fedora,
Ubuntu and Windows XP) and Internet Explorer 7.0 (on Windows XP).

2- The HTML and the CSS both passed validation. The W3C validation URLs follow:

HTML:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.msg.gouv.qc.ca%2Fservice_aerien%2Fservice_aerien.html
CSS:
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.msg.gouv.qc.ca%2Fservice_aerien%2Fservice_aerien.html&profile=css21&usermedium=all&warning=1&lang=en

Your fonts are clearly different in the two screenshots. For me with my font
settings, it appears fine, but if I tweak them a little bit, I can reproduce
your problem. This seems more to be a bug in the website expecting certain
fonts/sizes. However, as a workaround, you can tweak your font settings in
GNOME or Firefox to fix this.
