Description Răzvan Sandu 2008-07-21 06:45:04 UTC
Description of problem:

Hello,

I've experienced serious troubles in using Fedora 9 on a Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo
Mobile V5535, x86_64 machine (serial YKDA267743, for identification on Fujitsu's
site).

Hardware configuration is here:
http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_a587367e-3cb5-4baa-b812-75d2212f9b08

Among these problems:

1. I've tried to use Fedora 9's original DVD to boot in rescue mode. Booting
went on normally until the last phase, after the message that says the existing
installation is available under /mnt/sysimage. After that, I can't get a shell:
the machine suddenly restarts, too fast to see an error message. Of course I
have no mean to keep logs.

However, I was able to use CentOS 5.2 DVD for entering in rescue mode, so I
suspect a regression.

2. When trying to use the F9 Live CD, graphical interface doesn't start - user
is left over at text-mode login prompt.

3. I've managed to install an Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 on this laptop, but was I unable
to get the wireless working, despite following many detailed howto's available
on the Net:

(5772:28:5772:12391) pci, Unknown, NETWORK, AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI
Express Adapter

Windows reports this wi-fi adapter as Atheros AR E0007EG.

I've tried all methods, both native madwifi drivers or ndiswrapper + (known to
work) Windows drivers, but no luck.

Regards,
Răzvan

Comment 2 Andy Lindeberg 2008-07-21 13:38:05 UTC
Can you try installing with the latest build of rawhide?

Comment 3 Răzvan Sandu 2008-07-21 13:58:00 UTC
Unfortunately, I am asked to install Ubuntu 8.04 on this machine (which is not
mine - I'll have to return it in a few hours...).

But I've tried to use Fedora's fdisk to partition the HDD (before installing
both Windows XP and Ubuntu) and I've notice this strange behaviour, so I thought
it would be useful to post here as much hardware data as I can - first-hand
data. ;-)

Best regards,
Răzvan

Comment 4 Chris Lumens 2008-10-09 16:05:15 UTC
Hm, haven't ever been able to reproduce this in testing here and it's entirely possible this is being caused by some other traceback that we have since fixed. If you're able to test with rawhide at some point and see this is still happening, feel free to reopen this bug report. Thanks.
