Description Reindl Harald 2008-08-31 10:40:19 UTC
Hi

Kernel 2.6.26 has sound problems on two machines
The first 2.6.26-builds before "Disable the snd_pcsp driver" used the pc-speaker for all outputs and i had solved this with "rmmod snd_pcsp" in /etc/rc.local

All builds after that including 2.6.26.3-27.fc9 from today have nearly no output which means if you turn up to 100% you can hear that something is playing but with now useable volume.

Two machines:
2.6.26.3-27.fc9.x86_64
2.6.26.3-27.fc9.i686

On the i686 its a little difficult because i never got pulseaudio running there (which is another problem i do not understand not depending on kernel i think), some sounds are really loud, most of them are half power. I know this from the first install auf Fedora 5 on this machine and it was a big luck for me after dist-upgrades get real power for music - now its gone away again.

Here the lspci-outputs from both machines:

Strange thing
Linux srv-rhsoft.rhsoft.net 2.6.26.3-29.fc9.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Sep 3 03:16:37 EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Sound works on the x86_64 perfectly again
The i386-Version has "power-problems" as before, its a hp pavilion dv8000 and it sounds like a 5.1-surround where only center-speakers are active, but there are only two speakers and nothing to configure in fact

All other things with the last 2.6.23-builds are working very nice (VirtualBox.i386, iwl3945, VMware-Server.x86_64 2.0 RC2)

Comment 2 Christopher Beland 2009-05-13 22:32:27 UTC
Fedora 9 is now on kernel-2.6.27.21-78.2.41.fc9.i686. Are you still experiencing sound problems?

Comment 3 Harald Reindl 2009-05-13 22:40:25 UTC
Sorry, i'm on fedora10 since longer time and my notebook has died, the new one is running fine with f10-x86_64

Comment 4 Christopher Beland 2009-05-13 22:53:42 UTC
OK, I'll just close this report, then. It's good that you've upgraded, since Fedora 9 is nearing the end of its supported lifetime, anyway. Thanks for the quick reply!
