broken KDE apps when maximized

Description of problem:
Only 2/3 of the screen is usable with the radeon driver. It starts with the login manager: With KDM the right 1/3 is garbage, with GDM the session box (GNOME, KDE, etc) is only half shown. After a login in KDE maximized windows looses some buttons in the upper right and sometimes the right half isn't visible (first screenshot). After a login in openbox the desktop wallpaper isn't set properly (second screenshot).
If I use "vesa" everything is working fine. Also "nv" on another machine doesn't have this problems. I've tried some older drivers and it seems that the last working version was xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.9.0-15.fc10. With release 16 and above I'm getting these issues.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.9.0-21.fc10
kernel-2.6.27-0.392.rc8.git7.fc10

How reproducible:
ever

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Update to xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.9.0-21.fc10
2. start X (esp. KDM)
3. login

Actual results:
The right 1/3 of the screen isn't really usuable

Expected results:
full screen area should be usuable.

Additional info:
I'm also one of the guys who have to use "nomodeset" at grub. So I cannot say if it's working with normal modesetting enabled.

I have the exact same problems. I should say that I use also mostly kde applications but in my testing the problems are not restricted to kde applications.

Mozilla shows the same problems although in a lesser degree.
There are applications that are more affected than others, konqueror is not affected, on other hand kmail is heavily affected. The rightmost part of the screen (roughly 1/3 as Sebastian says) is not drawn correctly if at all.

My hardware profile is the following:
http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_6824ca5e-57e4-4026-b764-c5dc475eb220

Taking the advice of Sebastian I can confirm that xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.9.0-15.fc10 works perfectly.

When booting without the nomodeset option the same area of the screen is garbled when X freezes after leaving plymouth.
