Description Michal Klich 2008-10-21 21:26:58 UTC
Description of problem:
I have Targus USB mouse. It stopped working a while ago. When i plug it in dmesg shows this line:
"hub 4-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1"

While my Dell USB mouse works absolutely fine, i would like to use my Targus as Dell have been borrowed from my work.
This is output of dmesg when i plug Dell mouse
"usb 4-2: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
usb 4-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
input: Dell Premium USB Optical Mouse as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb4/4-2/4-2:1.0/input/input10
input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [Dell Premium USB Optical Mouse] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-2
usb 4-2: New USB device found, idVendor=413c, idProduct=3016
usb 4-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 4-2: Product: Dell Premium USB Optical Mouse"

I do remember that couple kernels ago dmesg while plugging Targus mouse showed some more info like vendor and some other info. Now, lights on mouse does not turn on anymore.
Same issue happens on my rawhide.

Kernel i run:
2.6.26.5-45.fc9.x86_64

Michal, I don't know if this would be challenging, but I would like to
see so-called "usbmon trace". There's a document about it at:
/usr/share/doc/kernel-doc-2.6.27.3/Documentation/usb/usbmon.txt
Please let me know if you cannot do it. Otherwise, start cat before
you plug the mouse in, plug the mouse, interrupt the cat and attach
the result to this bug.

Does the Targus mouse work in other computers, with other OS, like
Windows or OSX? Mice do sometimes go bad, and in very strange ways too.

Comment 2 Michal Klich 2008-10-22 20:44:52 UTC
I apologise. I could have sweared that this mouse works. I was wrong, it does not. Cable does not connect. Thing is it just stopped working along with problems with usb in some kernel and i thought that this is still the case.

I am closing that, sorry to bother you gentlemen.
