Description friesenfisch 2008-11-10 16:10:58 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092903 Mandriva/1.9.0.3-1mdv2009.0 (2009.0) Firefox/3.0.3

I tried to install Fedora 10 Beta on my machine.
In Anaconda, I can see no Mousepointer at all.
The Mouse is an Logitech MX510 attached to an USB Port.
I tried it with an adaptor from USB to PS2, but the same result.
I can't see a mousepointer when running the Fedora10 beta Live CD, as well.
Upgrading from Fedora 9 (where everything is fine) to Fedora 10 leads to the same problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Running the Installation DVD and Anaconda
2. Anaconda starts and there is no mousepointer
3.
Actual Results:
I can run the installation routine by using the keyboard, ther installation works fine, but after rebooting, there is still no pointer.

Expected Results:
there should have been a pointer on anaconda as well as on the Live CD Image.

Comment 1 Matěj Cepl 2008-11-11 00:21:59 UTC
Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below.

Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf whatsoever and let X11 autodetect your display and video card? Attach to this bug /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt as well, please.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 10 development cycle.
Changing version to '10'.

Reporter, could you please reply to the previous question? If you won't reply in one month, I will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you.

Comment 4 larrie 2009-03-02 06:22:53 UTC
I have the same hardware as the bug author and have the same problem (one minor difference - I have a PS/2 mouse). The machine has been used with FC5 and FC9 with no problems. I did a clean install of FC10 from dvd (x86_64).

Anaconda did not have a mouse cursor nor could I get the mouse to work except during the page with smolt - at that point, the scroll wheel works briefly scrolling the smolt output.

The install did have problems getting the graphical install going - it failed and defaulted to text. I tried with vga=791 and vga=794 - got the gui to work, but no difference with the mouse.

Right now after the install, I can log into the machine as expected - the mouse is functional (that is, I can click on menus, right-click, wheel scroll), but there is no pointer.

I've done a "yum update" which has pulled in new drivers. I haven't tried a xorg.conf so all I can provide is one log. I have both log copies (before update and after) and am posting the after update one.

Comment 6 larrie 2009-03-03 02:11:40 UTC
So after some experimentation, I found that I need a xorg.conf with SWCursor set to yes.

yum install system-config-display
system-config-display -noui

edited the generated xorg.conf and added in the Device section (there was no other options):

Option "SWCursor" "yes"

Comment 7 Peter Hutterer 2009-03-03 02:19:00 UTC
This is an issue with the graphics driver -> reassigning.
