BTW, i'm not sure whether this is a bug in the X server or icewm. I'm trying out the latest version of icewm (1.0.8-6) from sourceforge.net to see if that helps. The keyboard modifier defaults were changed in XFree86 to reflect what most people expect and so the ALT keys are consistent in function regardless of which keys a user may or may not have. Having ALT mean one thing on one keyboard, but some other function on a W95 keyboard and having the W95 key serve the Meta purpose did not make sense for common useability. You can configure the keyboard however you like by using xmodmap if you prefer a different configuration. The default however should remain consistent between various keyboards, and not give new users a surprise. What does this mean for me? I'll take your word for what the keys should be, but that doesn't change that the combination of icewm and the X server is not working. What should i do to restore the functionality? I mentioned xmodmap above.. It allows you to remap the modifier keys however you like, so you can redefine it to the way it was before if you like. For details on how xmodmap works, please see the xmodmap manpage. Another possibility is that the keyboard type you have selected is not a w95 keyboard type and doesn't map the keys. Attach your X configuration file if you like and I will have a look. As noted above, i don't know what the Window key was before. Upgrading to icewm-1.0.8-6 has solved the problem. Could you please upgrade the icewm in Powertools to 1.0.8? The current (semi-official) icewm package can be found at http://rhcontrib.bero.org/ |
