The /etc/updatedb.conf configuration file for mlocate-0.21.1-1.i386 has a setting:
  PRUNENAMES = ".hg .svn"
".git" should be included in this list as well.

Added in rawhide mlocate-0.21.1-2.  Thanks for your report.
