Description of problem:
Take a look at bug 462533, the last comments.

My system ended up in a situation where the user was removed from /etc/shadow but still existed in /etc/passwd.  It must have happened due to some bugs in some scripts.  So it can happen.

But userdel makes it impossible to recover from such a situation.  The userdel command fails because there is no such entry in /etc/shadow.  Not even the -f option changes this.  If the script sequence is as in bug 462533, which would get the system back in a correct state, is impossible to write with these tools.

1.add some new user to /etc/passwd by hand
2.run userdel for the new user

Actual results:
no way to remove the new user

Expected results:
add option to allow ignoring the failing entry in /etc/shadow and possibly in /etc/passwd

This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 9.  It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained.  At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 
'version' of '9'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' 
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 9's end of life.

we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 9 is end of life.  If you 
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it 
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle.
Changing version to '12'.

Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is 
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further 
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of 
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 19 development cycle.
Changing version to '19'.

(As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 19 development
cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 19 End Of Life. Thank you.)

This (at least for missing /etc/shadow) entry works fine in shadow-4.1.5.1.
