Description Tomas Smetana 2009-01-12 15:48:41 UTC
Description of problem:
The output of "ipmitool sensors list" for several sensors looks like this:

What should I (as an unexperienced OpenIPMI user) think about these?:
Status | 0x0 | discrete | 0x8080| na | na | na | na | na | na
Status | 0x0 | discrete | 0x8080| na | na | na | na | na | na
OS Watchdog | 0x0 | discrete | 0x0080| na | na | na | na | na | na

There is no indication of what the columns mean and how the values should be interpreted. Please add some "translation" from the raw values to human readable form and some column headers that would help users like me to understand the output.

Comment 2 Jan Safranek 2009-03-30 13:35:47 UTC
'ipmitool sensors list -v' gives values in more human readable format, without '-v' is the output more or less for machine processing... I'll add a note to man page and a table header (like 'ps').

Comment 5 Jan Safranek 2009-04-24 10:02:18 UTC
Only man pages updated in RHEL 5.4, I don't want to modify ipmitool output without upstream acceptance first.

OpenIPMI-2.0.16-4.el5 seems to produce quite sensible results with
ipmitool sensor list -v
