Description John Mellor 2009-03-07 15:28:41 UTC
Description of problem:
I have 3 accounts (1 local) that I read mail from. Evolution reads (say) 29 messages from 2 upstream pop accounts into my mail inbox, and (say) 2 local mbox messages into the local mail inbox folder (its set up this way because evolution does not seem to be able to merge local mbox mail into the main inbox). In the last second before finishing the downloads, the mail notification popup displays, announcing a completely wrong number (say 23 in this case) of new messages.

The mail notification popup does not seem to be hooked into the correct layer of evolution, leaving it to report a message count before the inbox is stable.

The mail notification popup also does not seem to have any concept of multiple inboxes, which is a very normal configuration in evolution.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
This problem exists in all patch levels of Fedora 10.

How reproducible:
Every time, with the trivial exception of only receiving one or two mails.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start evolution.
2. Press send/receive mail button.
3. Wait for mail to complete downloading.
4. Observe that the mail-notification popup with a message count that does not agree with evolution's count.
5. Using mailx, send mail to <self>@localhost
6. Press send/receive mail button.
7. Observe that the mail-notification popup is NOT fired, even though you have new mail.
8. Wait a bit, leaving evolution open.
9. Press send/receive mail button, receiving more mail.
10. Observe that the mail-notification popup is NOT fired, even though you have new mail.

Actual results:
Wrong incoming mail count displayed when it actuall fires. No incoming mail count displayed when it should be.

Expected results:
Correct incoming mail count displayed, including mail in more than one inbox.

This issue is not related to how mail-notification is packaged in Fedora. We are not upstream authors, hence we cannot fix it ourselvea way of packaging this programs.

Please, report it upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mail-notification/+bugs
