Description of problem:
A Qlogic 2xxx series card, in this case a qlogic 2100, will install
perfectly when placed in the 64-bit slot but will fail when the card is
placed in the 32-bit slot. It will lock up at loading qla2x00 module. I do
have the card in case anyone would like to test it. I have attempted to
install using "expert noprobe" and "options=verbose". Both times the
install locked up when loading the module and I was not able to switch to
any of the other virtual consoles.

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.place card in 32bit slot.
2.start standard install
3.

I'm having the exact same problem with 2.4.6-2 and a 64bit QLogic 2200; hard
hang on loading the module. No oops, but machine is dead, no VC's, no
<alt><SysRq>, etc.

Also seen in RH 7.2 Beta 3. Bugzilla #50703.

Comment 3 Arjan van de Ven 2001-08-03 11:53:04 UTC
This is believed to be a Intel firmware issue

Comment 4 Wendy Hung 2002-04-19 17:55:27 UTC
Fixed in 2.4.9-21 kernel errata.
