patch based on upstream code

Please describe the problem:
I have checked the option "Insert spaces instead of tabs" in Gedit preferences,
but it doesn't work.

Steps to reproduce:
1. check option "Insert spaces instead of tabs" in Gedit preferences;
2. open a file (or create a new);
3. press <TAB>;

Actual results:
a tab was inserted instead spaces

Expected results:

gedit-2.16.0-9.el5.x86_64:

gedit -> Edit -> preferences -> Editor tab

Tab width: 4
[X] insert spaces instead of tabs

1) if you have the keyboard [NUM Lock] key activated, gedit will insert <TAB> instead of 4 x <space> but
2) if you remove the [NUM lock], and you get the 4 x <space> as expected.

ymmv, not calling for any action now, just fyi.
