Description Matthieu Araman 2009-04-05 14:31:36 UTC
Description of problem:
Older linux system tools used to offer a test button, which would generate a sound until I say stop.
Looks like there's no way to do it any more on Fedora 11 for the moment.
I had to boot with a Ubuntu 8.10 live cd, use the included tools to test my settings, correct my cable until it work and reboot on Fedora after !
My pc comes with 5 or 6 differents connectors for sound, the settings offer multiple ways to configure sound. (see bug 489154 for example of the problems when the settings are not good)
Obviously, I expected a test button to be a basic required setting and I don't understand why the feature dissapeared with all the system tools rewriting.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Rawhide 20090404

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open System/Preferences/sound/output
2. Look for test button

Actual results:
Nothing, user get stuck.

Expected results:
Expecting a test button, generating a sound until I press the stop button.

Additional info:
I hope this can be corrected before release.

gnome-audio is a collection of sound files, and it's deprecated.

Bug sounds like http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=519438 though
