Diagram showing the incorrect mixer associations

Description of problem:
Under the Applications tab of the GNOME Sound Preferences (gnome-volume-control) application, adjusting the mixer's sliders adjusts PulseAudio's output device volumes, precisely as shown under the Output Device tab in pavucontrol.

One expects the Applications tab to list applications and allow the mixture to be adjusted independent of the overall device volume.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.29.1-54.fc11.x86_64
kernel-2.6.29.1-54.fc11.i586

gnome-media-2.26.0-1.fc11.x86_64
pulseaudio-0.9.15-8.test7.fc11.x86_64

Observed on both Intel HDA/Realtek and ATI IXP sound hardware.

See attached screenshot for the correspondence (despite the Rhythmbox label, the slider has no association with that stream).

It adjusts both. It's called "Flat Volumes", see:

Reopen if I misunderstood your misunderstanding.

Thanks for the info. I've checked that this is, indeed, how it works when streams are set to output on real audio devices. However, the behaviour is less clear when Simultaneous Output is being used. In that case, the "Flat Volume" feature works on the Simultaneous Output device, but I also mixers for the physical devices showing up under the Applications tab. I find this a bit confusing.

Perhaps these sliders should be suppressed and placed next to the balance control in the Output tab (which for some reason only adjusts the device checked by the radio button --- surely it should adjust the one *selected* regardless of this?).
