Description John Murphy 2009-04-24 12:08:55 UTC
Description of problem:
Unable to configure various wireless network security options because Network Manager applet wireless connection editor disables the apply button when required security type is selected.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0.99

How reproducible:
Edit a wireless connection and set security to anything aside from a couple choices (see below).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right-click Network Manager applet icon, "Edit Connections..." -> "Wireless" tab -> "wlan0" (for me) -> "Edit" -> "Wireless Security" tab
2. From pull-down select anything except "None" or "WPA & WPA2 Personal" (ie select one of the WEP options for instance)

Actual results:
"Apply" button to accept edits is disabled, so unable to create a connection with any security other than the two mentioned above ("None" or "WPA & WPA2 Personal").

Expected results:
"Apply" should remain enabled to permit the edit to be saved.

Additional info:
Would not be so bad, as my network runs WPA2 Personal / AES, except that a possible driver or other bug prevents WPA from working (it works fine with a bc43 wireless card on my other machine though, same configuration). The bug prevents me dropping to WEP security. (verified the system all works with wireless security set to "None" here, and on my router)

The apply button will be disabled until a valid combination of options has been entered. What options are you setting when this problem occurs, and what are you setting them to?

For WEP for example, you need to enter the WEP key or passphrase. For WEP keys, that needs to be in a special format (a "hex key")l, while for passphrases it can be anything between 8 and 63 characters.
