Description Leslie Brooks 2009-05-26 01:08:00 UTC
Description of problem: OpenOffice hung on me and I had to force-quit it. After that, it decided that the file I was editing (on my USB Flash drive) was "locked for editing by: Unknown User". This despite the fact that the lock file on the Flash drive is owned by me, and I am currently logged in as me. I also have write permission on it (but Group and Other do not have write permission). Restarting the computer didn't help; OO still insists the file is locked, and it doesn't know who has it locked.

http://specs.openoffice.org/appwide/fileIO/File_Locking.odt is the spec for the new 3.1 app-level locking

As OOo crashed, manually remove .~lock.* in the directory where the document is saved and it should be read-write openable again
