Description Will Woods 2009-06-03 22:16:27 UTC
After booting netinst.iso from F11 (RC4) on a PowerMac Dual G5 (PowerMac7,2), the system finds no hard drives.

At bootup there is an oops while loading isci_tcp, which may be unrelated. It then takes a very long time for loader to start.

Eventually it starts and loads stage2 and I can get to a shell.

At this point, sata_svw is loaded but doesn't seem to find any SATA ports or drives. The ata_generic module is not loaded - running 'modprobe ata_generic' just hangs.

This turned out to be a yaboot bug. Fix: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/yaboot-1.3.14-13.fc11

We may want to leave this as a kernel bug because that's what people are going to assume when they search.

I was able to install onto a PPC 970 by using the boot.iso at the following URL:

http://jwboyer.livejournal.com/34492.html

I installed via NFS and had to copy a file named install.img from the boot.iso to the NFS mounted directory.

I think we might as well close this, as there's no way we can fix it any better than it's fixed currently. closing as WONTFIX as that's technically correct - it could not be fixed in F11 (the reported release) due to time constraints. However, it was fixed in Rawhide so should work in F12, and the alternative boot.iso mentioned in comment #2 can be used to install F11.
