Description Mark Xie 2009-06-15 13:03:43 UTC
Description of problem:
Some Thunderbird buttons need to be optimized as they may confuse the users or for some easy-using reason.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL5 Client - thunderbird-2.0.0.22-2.el5_3 - i386 (en_US)

How reproducible:
Allways

Description:

Issue 1, Add a "Back to Main Window" button to compose window needed

It will be more graceful if the user can open the Thunderbird main window when only a compose window alive.

    1.Open thunderbird,
    2,Press 'Ctrl + N' to bring up a new compose window
    3,Close the main window.

The compose window is keeping open status, and the main window have closed, if the user want to back to the main window, it seems there is none way to reach that wish.

If a new button "Back to Main Window" add to the compose window, it will make Thunderbird more easier acceptable to junior users.

======================
Issue 2 Different actions when sending a mail in different ways.

When sending a mail, the actions will be difference when doing that in different ways.

The mail will be sent directly by clickling the "send message" button in these 2 ways,
        1) Click File > Send Now
        2) Click Send button on the toolbar

But there is a confirm box before the mail have sent when "Ctrl+Enter" pressed.

I thinks this confirm box is needed no matter the mail sending by pressed the "Ctrl+Enter" or by clicked by the "Sending mail" button. It will be perfect if the user could be able to setting if he need the confirm dialogue box or not.

======================
Issue 3 Add a "Print" button in "Print Preview" window needed

Open the "Print preview" window,
        1) Chose a mail message, then click 'File > Print Preview'
        or, 2) Chose a mail message, then right click the message and select "Print Preview"

There is none "Print" button on it, but infect, the users be glad if there is a "Print" button on the "Print preview" window.

======================
Issue 4 Folder properties - Two conflict setting button

Open the "Folder properties" window,
        1) Chose a folder, then click 'Edit > Folder Properties',
        or, 2) Chose a folder, then right click the right folder and select "Properties"
Then Click the "Retention Policy" tab,

There is a "Don't delete any messages", and also a "Always delete read message" check box on the Folder properties setting panel, these 2 setting will be conflict with each other and will confuse the user.

======================
Issue 5 Users can set the check mail interval time for IMAP account

First add an IMAP account, The open the "Account setting" window ('Edit > Account Settings'), Select "Sever Setting" of the added IMAP account, The "Check for new messages every xx minutes" can be check and the interval minutes can be set.

But, IMAP is an instant protocol, which meaning it's better do not let the user setting time when their protocol is IMAP.

======================
Issue 6 A "Forward As" button need to add to the right mouse menu

If the user want to send an exits mail as attachment, he/she have to do that by clicking "Message > Forward AS > ..." and then choose "Inline" or "Attachment". By click right mouse button, there's only a "Forward" button, the user will be find it much easier to use if the mouse popup menu keeps the same as the Message menu, and less confuse.

======================
Issue 7 Compose Window -- Edit Message body --Undo/Redo

There is only a "redo" button in the right mouse menu, but in the "Edit" menu contains both the "Redo" and "Undo" button. The same reason of the Issue 6, it will be a big gift for the users if the mouse-popup menu keeps the same with the main menu.
