Some additional info... I realized that kernel mode setting was actually off when I thought it was on. The symptoms I described in the original report were all with KMS off. With KMS on and DRI enabled, I get a blank screen and a mouse pointer. The mouse will move, but the keyboard is non-functional. With DRI disabled, I get the Fedora logo on a square of blue background, plus what appears to be part of the boot messages in the upper-right portion of the screen. I get a mouse pointer too, but both the mouse and keyboard are non-functional. Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages. For packages from updates-testing repository you can use command yum upgrade --enablerepo='*-updates-testing' Alternatively, you can also try to test whether this bug is reproducible with the upcoming Fedora 12 distribution by downloading LiveMedia of F12 Beta available at http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/ . By using that you get all the latest packages without need to install anything on your computer. For more information on using LiveMedia take a look at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraLiveCD . Created attachment 348694 [details] Xorg.log from failed startup Description of problem: When I try to start X with the radeon driver, I get a blank screen with only a bit of garbage at the top. The keyboard and mouse are unresponsive, and I have to power off the machine. I have tried disabling DRI, which results in an equally useless display, but I get a mouse pointer, and I can kill the X server and return to a console. I've also tried disabling kernel mode setting, and that didn't help.
