Description jason wang 2009-07-08 03:42:15 UTC
Description of problem:
When resuming from s3, virtio nic does not work well.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Host version:
etherboot-zroms-kvm-5.4.4-10.el5
kvm-83-83.el5
kvm-qemu-img-83-83.el5
kmod-kvm-83-83.el5
kvm-tools-83-83.el5
Linux amd-8750-4-1 2.6.18-156.el5 #1 SMP Mon Jun 29 18:16:54 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Guest Version:
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP Wed Dec 17 11:41:38 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the virtual machine with virtio nic
2. Suspend the virtual machine to s3
3. Resume from s3 and ping the remote machine
4. Investigate device information through dmesg

Actual results:
1. Virtio nic does not work
2. Following message found in the dmesg:
pnp: Failed to activate device 00:02.
pnp: Failed to activate device 00:03.
pnp: Failed to activate device 00:05.
pnp: Failed to activate device 00:06.

Expected results:
1. Virtio nic should work as normal

Additional info:
1. e1000 and 8139 works well after resuming

2. Have been tested both with balloon and without balloon, always fails

3. Have been tested with RHEL-5.3 and RHEL-5.4 guests both failed.

4. Tested with 83-83le5 and 83-69elovirt, both failed

5. qemu cli:
qemu-kvm -drive file=RHEL-Server-5.3-64.qcow2,if=ide,cache=off,index=0 -net nic,model=virtio,macaddr=00:11:22:33:55:44 -net tap \

Comment 2 Dor Laor 2009-07-08 12:27:40 UTC
Is it a regression? Can you check old autotest runs?

Comment 4 Lawrence Lim 2009-07-09 04:57:46 UTC
llim->jasowang, please check for regression. if its indeed regression, find out the last working version of kvm.

Comment 6 jason wang 2009-07-12 15:44:56 UTC
Not a regression bug, 87el5,83el5,81el5,77el5,69el5voirt,60el5 have been tested in this case.

Comment 7 Lawrence Lim 2009-07-20 12:18:58 UTC
