Description Chris Ricker 2001-08-10 15:54:24 UTC
This bug is similar to 50800

I took a box which was running RH 7.1 with LILO installed on the MBR. I
then installed beta3 on it. During the install, I told it to wipe the hard
drive, autopartition, and install grub on hda1.

When I rebooted, I got the LI prompt.

At a minimum, the disk wipe should have replaced the MBR with a minimal MBR
so that whatever I chose to do next would have worked.

Ideally, the grub menu would also add an option (perhaps only available in
expert) to remove LILO from the MBR....

This defect is considered MUST-FIX for Fairfax.

Comment 2 Matt Wilson 2001-08-10 21:36:18 UTC
you have to restore a valid MBR. Either install GRUB on the MBR or install some
other MBR code to the MBR to get active partitions to boot.

(in other words, this is user error)

I disagree! You're going to wind up with a *lot* of broken lilo -> grub
upgrades if you adopt that as RH policy.

At a minimum, I think you need to assume that if the whole disk is being
partitioned, the MBR should be replaced.
