I plugged in a set of insignia usb speakers. They work fine as output devices, I am just a little confused why they also appear on the list of input devices, since there is no microphone on them...

Hmm, the sound chip on that device has inputs, and so ALSA and hence PA expose them as such.

Maybe ALSA could recognize this device via some quirks table and even thought the chip supports recording disables the input?

Reassigning to the kernel/alsa.

Not sure we want to do anything here, really.

It shows up as a microphone in win32 too, fwiw.
