Since a recent ALSA upgrade in rawhide quite a few audio device strings became unavailable on my setup. That means that analog output and HDMI output are no longer detected by PulseAudio, rendering it mostly useless. $ aplay -D plug:front:Aureon51MkII -f CD < /dev/urandom ALSA lib conf.c:4626:(snd_config_expand) Expand error (walk): File exists ALSA lib confmisc.c:1286:(snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition 'cards.USB-Audio.pcm.front.0:CARD=Aureon51MkII' ALSA lib conf.c:4153:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory ALSA lib conf.c:4632:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory ALSA lib pcm.c:2211:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM front:Aureon51MkII aplay: main:608: audio open error: No such file or directory $ aplay -D plug:hdmi:HDMI -f CD < /dev/urandom ALSA lib conf.c:4626:(snd_config_expand) Expand error (walk): File exists ALSA lib confmisc.c:1286:(snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition 'cards.HDA-Intel.pcm.hdmi.0:CARD=HDMI,AES0=4,AES1=130,AES2=0,AES3=2' ALSA lib conf.c:4153:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory ALSA lib conf.c:4632:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory ALSA lib pcm.c:2211:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM hdmi:HDMI aplay: main:608: audio open error: No such file or directory $ cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [U0x46d0x9a4 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x9a4 USB Device 0x46d:0x9a4 at usb-0000:00:1a.7-3, high speed 1 [Bt878 ]: Bt87x - Brooktree Bt878 Brooktree Bt878 at 0xe8201000, irq 19 2 [AudioPCI ]: ENS1371 - Ensoniq AudioPCI Ensoniq AudioPCI ENS1371 at 0xd000, irq 20 3 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xe8300000 irq 22 4 [HDMI ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI HDMI HDA ATI HDMI at 0xe5010000 irq 17 5 [Aureon51MkII ]: USB-Audio - Aureon5.1MkII TerraTec Aureon5.1MkII at usb-0000:00:1a.1-2, full speed 6 [Speaker ]: USB-Audio - Logitech USB Speaker Logitech Logitech USB Speaker at usb-0000:00:1d.1-2, full speed alsa-lib-1.0.21-1.fc12.x86_64
