Description Georg Wild 2009-09-23 16:16:56 UTC
Since the upgrade to fc12 alpha my built-in webcam isn't turned off default. I see this by a green led built into my laptop.

Extract from messages:
Sep 23 17:28:59 localhost kernel: uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device USB 2.0 Camera (174f:5a35)
Sep 23 17:28:59 localhost kernel: input: USB 2.0 Camera as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.5/usb1/1-6/1-6:1.0/input/input11
Sep 23 17:28:59 localhost kernel: usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

When I use cheese and cancel the webcam gets out.

Your webcam is a UVC cam, so the LED is controlled by the firmware inside the
webcam. In older Fedora versions hal used to open and close the cam to probe it during boot, there by probably turning the LED off (like running cheese does).

We've stopped doing this probing, but your webcam firmware really should just start with the LED off.
