Has been fixed in newer Fedoras - see bug #503284 This message is a reminder that Fedora 10 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 10. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '10'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 10's end of life. Description of problem: Trying to launch echomixer from console gives the following error: "Cannot find the font" Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Always, after installing alsa-tools, unless xorg-x11-fonts-misc is installed (not installed by default, not included as dependency in alsa-tools, but needed). Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a terminal 2. Type 'echomixer' Actual results: "Cannot find the font" Expected results: Echomixer gui should launch Additional info: The error results from not having 'xorg-x11-fonts-misc' installed. Including this font as a dependency in the alsa-tools package should resolve the problem. The solution was revealed by looking in 'echomixer.c': gtk_init(&argc, &argv); fnt=gdk_font_load("-misc-fixed-medium-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*"); if (!fnt) { printf("Cannot find the font\n"); exit(1); } The "-misc-fixed-medium-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" font is part of xorg-x11-fonts-misc, which needs to be installed for the echomixer gui to appear.
