After I resume from a suspend approx. 5-10 seconds later the computer becomes unresponsive. iotop left open before this happens shows xorg eating disk i/o.

I have an i915. If I suspend and resume more than once, the machine is essentially dead.

If I use nomodeset I can switch VT, kill and restart X.
If I do not use nomodeset, I cannot do this, and must ctrl+alt+del.

If you wait a minute or two, does the computer gets back into the shape by itself? If yes, this is duplicate of my bug 528312.

A few days ago I had the same problem as that bug, but not now.

Back then I could wait and sometimes X would go back to normal. Note that while X was running, it was so slow that the mouse pointer was shuddering across the screen. It was not usable.

Now I have a different problem: X never recovers.

With nomodeset I can at least grab a terminal and run pkill X.
Without nomodeset, I have no chance.

Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages (at least F12Beta, but even better if the very latest versions).

Please, if you experience this problem on the up-to-date system, let us now in the comment for this bug, or whether the upgraded system works for you.
