Description James Hubbard 2009-10-26 01:36:06 UTC
Description of problem:
Spell checking is not working in Firefox. Typically when entering text in a browser window for things such as this text box, firefox will place a red line under text that is misspelled. This is not functioning. To enable this, I had to go to the mozilla website and download a US Dictionary.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
firefox-3.5.3-1.fc12.i686

How reproducible:
Works on all new install of Fedora 12 Beta.

Actual results:
Doesn't provide visual indication of mis-spelled words

Expected results:
Red line under misspelled words in text entry boxes.

Comment 1 James Laska 2009-10-27 17:38:21 UTC
I believe I encountered this problem when I first installed F-12 a while ago.

Can you tell me:
 1) How you installed Fedora 12
 2) Output from the command:

$ rpm -qa *spell*
hunspell-en-0.20090216-7.fc12.noarch
aspell-0.60.6-7.fc12.i686
aspell-en-6.0-11.fc12.i686
gtkspell-2.0.15-2.fc12.i686
hunspell-1.2.8-12.fc12.i686

Comment 2 James Hubbard 2009-10-27 17:45:26 UTC
Used the F12 Beta LiveCD on a USB key. I had it format the / partition and leave the /home partition intact. So, it's a fresh install.

The only ones installed are:
hunspell-1.2.8-12
gtkspell-2.0.15

Comment 3 Matěj Cepl 2009-10-29 02:23:49 UTC
You need to install language packages for hunspell (most likely hunspell-en in your case).

What is the value of variable layout.spellcheckDefault (in about:config)?

If the installation of the dictionary package doesn't help, please, run

package-cleanup --problems
rpm -Va

and paste here (or attach as file).

Thank you very much

Comment 4 James Hubbard 2009-10-29 02:35:28 UTC
Installing the hunspell-en dictionary fixed the problem. Will the dictionaries be included on the LiveCD?

Comment 5 Bug Zapper 2009-11-16 14:19:35 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle.
Changing version to '12'.
