After adding ums-cypress.ko to the initrd and rebuilding dependencies the live image works as expected. Perhaps all usb-storage drivers sohuld be included on the initrd? Does this affect the normal F12 installation initrd as well? I have not had time to test this myself yet. Same issue exists in the normal F12 installation DVD image. The ums-cypress.ko module is needed. I suggest all the usb-storage modules are added to the initrd. Perhaps this shoud be reassigned to livecd-tools? Peter The only way to fix this is to add all the modules in drivers/usb/storage to the initrd instead of just usb-storage.ko I used the F11 netinstall disk image to install F12 beta DVD ISO image to my USB disk(ums-cypress), but cannot boot. This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle. Changing version to '12'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping Issue still there in F12. Anaconda works well when adding the missing modules from the kernel rpm to the installation initrd. I have not tried an installation _to_ the USB drive, so I do not know if mkinitrd picks up the modules correctly. dracut-003-1.fc12 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 12. http://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/dracut-003-1.fc12 dracut-003-1.fc12 has been pushed to the Fedora 12 testing repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report. If you want to test the update, you can install it with su -c 'yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update dracut'. You can provide feedback for this update here: http://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F12/FEDORA-2009-12432 Using livecd-to-disc and liveusb-creator to copy livecd image to external usb hard drive (ide drive in usb caddy). Booting from the hard drive gives "no root device found" If rdshell is appended to kernel boot line then ls /dev only shows internal hard drives /dev/sda1-2 and no device for the usb hard drive. Tested on multiple machines giving the same result. However using the exact same method works with fedora 11. I noticed in the boot messages that when the usb caddy (containing the hard drive) was detected, it was described as a Cypress ...something. It picked up the usb device, just doesn't recognise it as a hard drive To add the modules to initrd like Peter Svensson, do i need to create a whole new livecd with a new initrd? Thanks If i knew how to create a new livecd with the required module, or if someone has created one, i will be happy to test it. This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. |
