Description of problem:
i just tried to hook up a 42" fullhd lcd via displayport -> hdmi adapter and it is detected as dvi1 by xrandr: http://fpaste.org/nxMQ/. max resolution probed was 1280x720 and only 7". in reality this is a fullhd lcd with 42" inch. 1920 x 1080 max resolution.

the hardware is a lenovo x301 with gma 4500 hd but i got the same results with an ati card.

There's two bugs here.  One is the lack of fixup for HDTV interlaced modes in the EDID parser, the other is that the intel driver just refuses interlaced modes point-blank.

the question from 3 months ago remains.... especially since i have the same problem with ati open source driver and hd4650 on rawhide.

still a problem in rawhide. while the ps3 detects my lcd successfully as 1080p capable linux (intel / ati) doesent yet. more info required?

Oughtn't be.  Should be fixed as of 61e57a8d72f2336faf39b5d940215cf085e01e6e; not sure what all stable branches that made it to though.

OK, this will be fixed in f14, since that patch went in 2.6.35.
