Description bastiaan 2001-09-13 14:08:08 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.77 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.4.6 i686)

Description of problem:
The kernel/installer correctly detects the via82c686 sound chip in my AOpen
AK73Pro(A) motherboard, but produces a very poor sound quality.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. play an MP3 with xmms for example
2.
3.

Actual Results: Very poor sound quality. It sounds like the normal music
with added to it a very distorted high pitched version.

Expected Results: Reasonable quality sound.

Additional info:

This is a regression from RedHat 7.1. With the 2.4.2-2RedHat kernel the
sound is good, but I started to have the same problems after upgrading to a
stock 2.4.5 kernel.
The ALSA sound drivers (tried version 0.5.11) generate an acceptable sound
quality with the same setup other wise. (Tried only with Roswell2 and ALSA
through OSS compatibility modules).
