Patch to allow qgis to build with sip 4.9 none

Description Rex Dieter 2009-11-17 17:06:16 UTC
Looks like we'll need update to qgis again for newer sip
stack. This update is required mostly to address a licensing problem found in
the sip-4.8.x series.

Anyway, updates were recently pushed to updates-testing for F-10, F-11, F-12,
and newer sip/PyQt4 are currently in the buildroots.

I've added the fixes required to devel/ branch, and can do the rebuilds if you want.

How best do you want to proceed?

Comment 1 Rex Dieter 2009-11-19 18:55:47 UTC
Well, it's just an added dep, and a rebuild, I'll try to keep cvs modifications to a minimum and take care of bodhi updates.

Comment 2 Rex Dieter 2009-11-19 19:42:21 UTC
Ah, if it only were that simple. Seeing build failures. working on it...

Comment 3 Rex Dieter 2009-11-19 20:01:38 UTC
Looks like it's simply incompatible with sip-4.9.x atm, keeping open for now.

We'll likely need to ping upstream for help/guidance here.

Until this is fixed, qgis-python is non-functional. How essential is this subpackage? Could we consider dropping support for it, at least temporarily until upstream help fix it?

I'd say its essential. All of the truely useful plugins for QGIS, including the plugin manager, depend on python support. I've been really missing quite a few of them. I'm able to do what I need to for now but it does take much, much longer.

Comment 5 Rex Dieter 2009-12-13 01:23:48 UTC
Ok, let me put it this way, which is worse.
qgis-python always crashing
or
qgis-python being not present?

Well, hopefully it won't come to that... I'm sorry I've been fairly swamped, would you be wiling/able to help contact upstream to find out about why builds fail against sip-4.9.x ?

Patch to allow qgis to build with sip 4.9

The fix for QGIS 1.3.x seems to work for 1.0.2 as well. I've been able to build the qgis packages for F12 using the attached patch and python plugins seem to working.

Thanks!

Looks like we have a winner, builds ongoing, I'll take care of issuing updates.
