Proposed patch against up2date-4.9.1-2. none

Description Erik M Jacobs 2009-11-19 22:56:26 UTC
Description of problem:
RHEL 4.8 guests running in RHEV on full RHEL 5.4 hosts are not correctly reported by RHN as being guests of that host.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEV - current
RHEL guest - 4.8
RHEL host - 5.4 full installation

How reproducible:
100% of the time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a RHEV set up with a full RHEL 5.4 host
2. Register the 5.4 host to RHN and install the proper virtualization tools
3. Create a RHEL 4.8 guest using RHEV and register it to RHN

Actual results:
The name of the guest shows up in the list of virtual guests for the RHEL 5.4 host. The guest does not correctly link to the system profile of the RHEL 4.8 system that is registered.

Expected results:
The RHEL 4.8 system profile should be associated with the corresponding guest of the RHEL 5.4 host.

This does work correctly with a RHEL 5.4 guest. As we are supporting RHEL 3, 4, and 5 under RHEV, this should probably work with RHEL 4.8.

Has anyone in QA re-attempted this?

Comment 5 Clifford Perry 2010-01-07 15:42:55 UTC
Erik - no. I have not asked any of the Satellite QE folks to look at this since I feel still that RHEL 4 was never part of scope for RHEV support that was implemented and so no need to do anything further at this point of triage.

Cliff

Comment 7 Andrew Cathrow 2010-01-07 15:49:42 UTC
cliff, Sorry if the scope wasn't correctly communicated.
We need a RHEL 5.4 host to run RHEL 3, 4 and 5 guests and inherit the same guest subscriptions as they would on a classic Xen deployment

Flipping to RHEL 4 product.

Merging with bug 528761 as it has ITs linked to it.
