Description of problem:
mii-tool does not display the corect speed of my 1000baseT interface,
but instead says only

eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok

even though the switch reports 1000baseT and the actual transfer rate confirms
that the link has a gigabit speed.

Additional info:
I know mii-tool is obsolete, but nevertheless there exists a patch to allow this - for example in net-tools-1.60-22 in Debian:

(their braindead packaging system does not allow to separate the patches, but I guess taking the patches to mii-tool.c and mii-tool.8 only would be sufficient).

You are right, mii-tool is obsolete and you should check ethtool instead.
But thanks for reporting, I'll look at the patch.

Well, there is an unrelated problem that I can't get ethtool to lower my speed to 100baseT either using "ethtool -s eth0 speed 100" or "ethtool -s eth0 advertise 0x0f"). It restarts autonegotiation, but ends up at 1Gb/s anyway.
This is on the following NIC:

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 02)

I will probably fill a separate bug for it, as soon as I will have time to test it on the Fedora kernel (this is on vanilla 2.6.32-rc5).

net-tools-1.60-103.fc13 has been pushed to the Fedora 13 testing repository.  If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report.
