Description of problem: two libraries are marked as needing execstack, and this causes SELinux (in my case) to prevent tomcat6 from starting. find /usr/lib -name \*.so\* -exec execstack -q {} \; 2>/dev/null | grep ^X X /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so X /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so How reproducible: (from fresh FC12 install I did this) # yum tomcat6 install # service tomcat6 start # cat /var/log/tomcat6/catalina.out ---------------- dl failure on line 696Error: failed /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so, because /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Permission denied --EOF----------- Actual results Tomcat not started Expected results: Normal startup Additional info: Running the command: # execstack -c /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so allows tomcat to startup normally.
