This will hopefully be fixed in Pidgin 2.6.4, due out in a week or two.
Upstream fix is:

Pidgin 2.6.4 should be available now:
  yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update libpurple pidgin
should get you that (though my mirror doesn't have it yet, packages linked to at https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F12/FEDORA-2009-12455 / http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=143536 )
