Description of problem:

Some of the mdadm command line switches do not work in both the long "--name" and short "-N" forms.  This has been the case for a number of years/releases now.  So I think an audit/check of the documented switches should needs to be done, can make for hair pulling moments when trying to perform installation.

In all cases I ever had a problem the long versions always seemed to work, it was always the short versions I had trouble with.

This problem is only with some command line switches.  From memory --name=<string> and -N <string> (I found "-N <string>" did not work).  Going back a number of release a previous fedora had a similar problem with "--add" and "-a".



THIS REPORT IS MADE TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK TO CONCERNS MADE DURING A FEDORA12 INSTALLATION.

The current version of mdadm I'm working with is 3.1.1.  I have verified that the -N short opt works in this version of mdadm.  The -a issue was resolved a long time ago.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 12.  It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained.  At that time

'version' of '12'.

Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is 
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further 
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of 
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.
