Description Michal Schmidt 2009-12-08 18:48:09 UTC
Description of problem:
I updated from compiz-0.8.2-19.fc12 to compiz-0.8.2-20.fc12. After new login window decorations were gone. I used 'desktop-effects' to disable compiz and investigated. It turns out that compiz won't start because of this error:

compiz: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/compiz/libwall.so: undefined symbol: getCompPluginInfo

libwall is the "Desktop Wall" plugin. It is used when "Workspaces on a Cube" is not enabled.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
compiz-0.8.2-20.fc12

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run 'desktop-effects'
2. Make sure Compiz is enabled and "Workspaces on a Cube" is disabled.

Actual results:
Window decorations are gone, compiz complains to stderr (can be seen in ~/.xsession-errors if run by gnome session)

Expected results:
Compiz should run without errors.

Additional info:
This is a regression since compiz-0.8.2-19.fc12

The forum thread is about issues with compiz packages from an external repo (leigh123linux's), not Fedora packages. They may have the same bug, but the Fedora package maintainer is not responsible for this external repo.

From Fedora users' point of view it's good that the build which introduced this bug never went to stable updates (The push from testing to stable was cancelled by the maintainer because of this bug.).
