Screenshot (11pt). UMing was problematic while UKai OK.

Description of problem:

Text in boldface cannot be correctly shown in UKai and UMing font families when certain font sizes are used. Instead, they are shown as normal characters with slightly larger spacing between them.

For example, in 11pts, UMing boldface is not working, while UKai works. Both font families work fine in 12pts, yet neither works in 14pts.

In the screenshots to be uploaded later, the same text excerpt was copied in OpenOffice.org Writer in order to show the idiosyncrasy. The filenames (w/o the ".png" part) indicates the size used. Each screenshot shows two paragraphs of identical texts, both with the first sentence set to boldface in Oo.o Writer.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

cjkuni-fonts-0.2.20080216.1-29.fc12

How reproducible:

Always

Actual results:

"Boldface" displayed just like non-boldface, with slightly larger character spacing.

Expected results:

"Boldface" text should have been displayed in boldface, duh.

Additional info:

Non-CJK characters are affected too.

Another font, the WenQuanYi Zen Hei (package name: wqy-zenhei-fonts), doesn't display this erroneous behavior.

Comment 3 Caius Chance 2009-12-21 01:14:48 UTC
Reproducible.

However, it is happening only on oowriter, not even on oocalc.

Comment 4 Caius Chance 2009-12-21 02:09:28 UTC
Tested on gedit and not reproducible. Also changed Zoom to 120% on oowriter the bolded text are at bold correctly.

Is this an oowriter instead?

Comment 5 Cong Ma 2009-12-21 09:39:18 UTC
Thanks for the insight. I've changed the "component" field to openoffice.org.

I'm using oo.o version 3.1.1-19.22.fc12 and can confirm Caius' report.

Comment 6 Jens Petersen 2009-12-22 05:49:33 UTC
How about F11?

Comment 7 Caolan McNamara 2009-12-22 09:11:50 UTC
I imagine this is emboldening gone wrong +- embedded bitmaps or sommat

Comment 8 Nicolas Mailhot 2009-12-22 13:11:37 UTC
@Caolan : please add the fedorafonts user in CC in the OO.o issue tracker when you identify a problem that affects fedora fonts. This way the issue appears in
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Known_fonts_and_text_bugs and
http://fedora.markmail.org/search/?q=com.redhat.fedora-fonts-bugs-list

Comment 9 Caolan McNamara 2009-12-22 14:01:29 UTC
There's no point in tracking things that don't get fixed

Comment 10 Caolan McNamara 2009-12-22 14:03:57 UTC
hmm, "no point in..." wasn't intended for here :-).

OOo-specific issue alright, some plausible fixes submitted upstream and checked in locally. Will be in >= 3.1.1-19.24

I tested both with embedded bitmaps on and off. Same problem was observed.
