Description Christopher Beland 2009-12-27 17:08:43 UTC
When I plugged my HP printer into my Fedora 12 laptop for the first time, after a few seconds a black notification appeared informing me that I needed to install hpijs in order to use the printer. Unfortunately, by the time I had read and comprehended the message, the notification disappeared. Unplugging and re-plugging the printer didn't make the notification reappear.

Given the importance of the notification to the user, it seems to me that it should persist until clicked away. There is an "install" button on the notification that is the next logical step in setup. I was able to trigger an automatic install of the right packages by attempting to print and then running through steps in the printing troubleshooter, but this is a bit of a runaround for users who just want to plug and print. 8)
