No, Japanese shouldn't have any effect on it. Did you download the ISOs? If so, did you check the md5sums on them before you burned them? Actually, what I saw after running MD5SUM did not match what the MD5SUM file form the ftp site said. But...now I am running a fresh installation instead of upgrade and it seems to be going well (it is formatting right now). Well, I wouldn't be surprised if you see strange behavior in the future since you're installing with a corrupted ISO. If you do run into problems, please redownload the ISOs and make sure they are good. If you can reproduce the probem with good cd's, then please reopen this bug report. Closing as 'Notabug'.
