Description Michael Monreal 2010-01-14 11:01:12 UTC
For a few days now, Empathy fails to connect to ICQ. The only output is "Network error". The same problem happens on my laptop (F12) and desktop (F12).

I installed the F13 empathy package on the desktop to test, still the same problem.

Not sure if I can provide any more data because the connection manager used for ICQ does not seem to provide logging features...

Hmm I just found this upstream bug¹. Seems like his problems started at around the same time... would be interesting to know if he is using Fedora, too...

Does "yum downgrade libpurple", waiting a few minutes, followed by a restart solve the problem for anyone experiencing this ICQ problem recently? I am wondering if this is related to Bug 554923.

Comment 3 Michael Monreal 2010-01-14 16:48:09 UTC
The downgrade got me to purple 2.6.3, but even after a reboot I still see the same problem.

Comment 4 Michael Monreal 2010-01-15 20:17:15 UTC
I update purple again after seeing the old version did not work. Waited a day, and now everything is working again... strange?

Comment 5 Christopher Beland 2010-01-16 17:53:43 UTC
Did the update to empathy-2.28.2-2.fc12.i686 fix it, perhaps?

Comment 6 Michael Monreal 2010-01-16 21:55:24 UTC
No, I did not update empathy recently. Maybe it was a server issue after all...

Comment 7 Christopher Beland 2010-01-17 04:46:54 UTC
I guess we'll close the bug, then. Feel free to reopen if you experience this problem again.
