Description Daniel Berrangé 2010-01-20 14:29:28 UTC
Description of problem:
For VirtIO disks, or SCSI controllers, libvirt can use device_del or pci_del to remove the device / controller respectively. There is no way, however, to remove a single SCSI disk from a SCSI controller. Previously libvirt's SCSI remove was broken, actually removing the entire controller and we'd like to now fix that to properly remove the single drive.

I'd like to see a monitor command that supports

  drive_del if=scsi,$bus.$unit

And/or

  drive_del $id

There was a previous thread about this here, but it didn't resolve itself:

Comment 3 Daniel Berrangé 2010-03-01 14:49:23 UTC
Based on this new discovery that 'device_del' of the guest device, also removes the drive state, we don't have an urgent need for 'drive_del'.

So suggest this BZ can be pushed off to rhel-6.1

Markus, I think your -blockdev work supersedes this, right?
Wanna take this for your work? Or should I CLOSE/WOUNTFIX or CLOSE/DUPLICATE?

Comment 5 Markus Armbruster 2010-06-08 16:49:17 UTC
Yes, it'll provide the feature. Taking the bug.

Related: bug 581963.

Bug 654682 asks for the same feature, just for different reasons. Since the actual work is being tracked there, close this one as duplicate.
